About This Dinosaur

Hadrosaurs were a highly successful group of plant-eating dinosaurs that lived during the Cretaceous Period, around 100–66 million years ago. They are often known as duck-billed dinosaurs due to the shape of their broad, flattened mouths.

These dinosaurs were herbivores and used their beaks to crop plants, while complex batteries of teeth helped them grind vegetation efficiently. This made hadrosaurs among the most advanced plant-eating dinosaurs of their time.

Hadrosaurs lived in many parts of the world, including North America, Europe, and Asia. Some species had tall, hollow crests on their heads, while others had flatter skulls. These crests may have been used for display, species recognition, or sound production.

As a group, hadrosaurs were extremely important in Late Cretaceous ecosystems. They were common, diverse, and often formed a major food source for large predators such as tyrannosaurs. Their fossils remain popular with collectors because they represent one of the most recognisable and successful dinosaur families.
