Refund policy
This policy explains your rights when purchasing from The Fossil Shop. Nothing in this policy limits or excludes your statutory rights under UK consumer law.
Changing your mind
When purchasing online, you normally have the right to cancel your order without giving a reason.
You must tell us that you wish to cancel within 14 days beginning the day after you—or a person nominated by you - receive the goods.
If an order contains multiple items delivered on different days, the cancellation period begins the day after the final item is received.
After telling us that you wish to cancel, you must return the goods within a further 14 days.
To cancel, email info@thefossilshop.co.uk with:
-
your name;
-
your order number;
-
the item or items you wish to return; and
-
a clear statement that you wish to cancel your order.
You may use the model cancellation form at the end of this policy, but you do not have to.
Return postage
For change-of-mind returns, you are responsible for the cost of returning the goods.
We recommend using an appropriately insured, tracked service and retaining proof of postage. You are responsible for the goods until they reach us.
If an item is faulty, damaged, incorrect or not as described, please contact us before returning it. We will cover reasonable return costs or arrange an appropriate method of return where required by law.
Condition of returned goods
You may inspect an item as you reasonably would in a shop.
We may reduce your refund to reflect any loss in value caused by handling beyond what is necessary to establish the item’s nature, characteristics and condition. This may include avoidable damage, alteration or excessive handling.
Natural fossils, minerals and similar specimens may vary in colour, shape, size and appearance. A natural variation that was clearly described before purchase does not automatically mean that an item is faulty or misdescribed.
This does not affect your rights if the item is materially different from its description or the representative information provided.
Refunds for cancelled orders
For a valid cancellation, we will refund:
-
the price paid for the returned goods; and
-
the cost of our least expensive standard delivery option.
If you selected a premium or expedited delivery service, we will not refund the difference between that service and our standard delivery charge.
Refunds will be made using the original payment method unless we expressly agree otherwise.
We will issue the refund without undue delay and no later than 14 days after:
-
we receive the returned goods; or
-
you provide evidence that you have sent the goods back, if earlier.
Your bank or payment provider may take additional time to display the refund.
We do not charge cancellation or restocking fees when you exercise your statutory cancellation rights.
Faulty, damaged or incorrect items
Please inspect your order when it arrives.
If an item is faulty, damaged in transit, not as described or you receive the wrong item, contact us as soon as reasonably possible at info@thefossilshop.co.uk.
Please include your order number and, where useful, photographs of the item and its packaging.
Do not dispose of or return the item before contacting us. We will assess the issue and explain the available remedy, which may include a refund, repair or replacement as required by law.
If goods are rejected because they are faulty, damaged, incorrect or misdescribed, we will cover reasonable return costs or arrange collection where appropriate.
The 14-day change-of-mind cancellation period does not limit your separate statutory rights concerning faulty, damaged or misdescribed goods.
Exchanges
We do not operate a direct exchange service.
If you would like a different item, you may cancel and return the original purchase within the periods described above and place a separate order.
This does not affect your statutory rights.
Sale items and gift cards
Sale items have the same statutory rights as full-price items. They may be returned under the 14-day change-of-mind cancellation right where that right applies.
Unused gift cards may be cancelled by notifying us within 14 days of purchase. Once a gift card has been used, in whole or in part, please contact us so that we can assess the remaining balance and any applicable statutory rights. This does not affect your rights if a gift card is faulty, cannot be used as described or was supplied incorrectly.
These exclusions do not remove your statutory rights if an item is faulty, damaged or not as described.
Other cancellation exceptions
The statutory change-of-mind cancellation right may not apply to certain goods, including:
-
items made to your specification or clearly personalised;
-
goods liable to deteriorate or expire rapidly;
-
sealed goods unsuitable for return for health or hygiene reasons once unsealed; and
-
other goods or services legally exempt from cancellation rights.
These exceptions do not remove your rights if an item is faulty, damaged or not as described.
